Crop Top Trend in 2015 and beyond
After a almost a decade
and a half absence the crop top dress is back and they are everywhere.
Not just in the junior departments of trendy stores like Forever
21 and Charlotte
Russe but also for prom and even weddings too.
Way back in 2001 when Christina Aguliera and Britney Spears were topping the charts and showing off their sexy stomachs crop top dresses were hot and now a little over a decade later they are hot again. The trend started last spring in 2014. Some said it wouldn't last, but for 2015 they are still hot and I expect to see them around for several years to go.
The crop top for wedding dresses are obviously the most conservative of the crop top trend. Most crop top wedding dresses are still white in color. The wedding dress crop tops come in a variety of sleeve lengths and shoulder/neck styles. They can be very simple or adorned with sheer fabrics, lace, fringes, tassels or other adornments. The accompanying skirt is almost always high waisted and extends to the floor. Some even have a train. Usually only one or two inches of mid-rift can be seen on these dresses.
For prom, intricate tops and more colors are the norm. Unlike the wedding dresses, three or four inch (or more) mid-rifts can be seen on the dresses for prom. The skirt need not be high waisted for prom, but like wedding dresses the skirt is usually floor length although not always. All major designers have several crop top prom dresses in their offering. Faux crop top dresses which have sheer material covering the mid-rift are also common.
More casual crop top dresses can also be found at your favorite store. These dresses usually have a simpler design and don't necessarily need to be worn with a full length skirt. You can find them everywhere today, such as at BCBG, Saks Fifth Avenue, Charlotte Russe...well everywhere actually.
